About the NH Potter's Guild

We are an inclusive organization for people working in clay.

We have an address but no central location. We meet several times a year with organizational meetings, workshops, discussions and activities to share work and ideas.

We have a committment to education and community action. We’ve been in existence for several decades and are always looking towards the future.

The purpose of the NHPG is to get together in the interests of ceramics whenever necessary or desirable for fellowship and good times, exchange of ideas and methods, collaboration in work and exhibitions, encouragement to students, and promotion of standards of ethics, aesthetics and craftmanship.

Community Kiln Update

During the summer several groups of Potters Guild members worked on the Community Wood Kiln at Al Jaeger's.  We have finished building the firebox walls, inlet and exit flues, and the ware chamber walls up to the arch on the chimney side. We're half way there....

The next task is to cut bricks to fit the fire box area leading into the ware chamber. Then we can place the lid on the firebox, finish building the walls of the ware chamber up to the arch, and then stack the chimney up through the roof so we can finish closing in the kiln shed. After that, we will weld the steel frame into place so the arch can be put in. Then we'll be ready for the inaugural firing of the kiln in its new home.

Potters Market

The Potters Market committee would like to thank all who participated in this year's market to help make it a success. Despite the state of the economy we felt there was an excellent turnout. The market was also a great opportunity to reconnect with members and to share ideas and marketing strategies. You could feel all the good energy in the room! The committee will be holding a post market meeting in the near future. We will also be sending a survey to participants for feedback so that we can make next year's market even better. We encourage members to join the 2010 Potters Market committee.

Testimonial from a pottery collector who has attended the market for the last 4 years:

"The market was excellent this year -- good location and nicer variety of offerings. Congratulations."

Empty Bowls

EMPTY BOWLS is an international project to fight hunger, personalized on a community level. The concept is simple. Participating artists create and donate ceramic bowls, then serve a simple meal. Guests chose a bowl to use that day and keep it as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. In exchange for the meal and the bowl, guests give a suggested minimum donation. The meals proceeds are given to a local hunger-fighting organization, such as a food bank or soup kitchen.
